He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases

I don’t get sick often, and when I do get sick, it can generally be fixed with a cough drop.  So I always pause for a moment when I am reminded that I was born with a chronic illness.

At birth, the doctors could do nothing to help my condition.  My parents knew that I had zero chance of natural healing.  I would not grow out of it.  It could not be cured by any panacea.  My diagnosis was dismal.

Physically, I was healthy, and I have been physically healthy my entire life. Nonetheless, I suffer from the condition that the whole world shares. The symptoms of anger, worry, and fear can flare at any moment. The side-effects include loneliness, confusion, and discouragement.

If not treated, this disease is disabling.

You see, my disease was sin.

Thankfully, the cure is simple. Our Great Physician knows the proper remedies for healing this disease. He does more than treat the symptoms; He treats the cause.

The prescription He writes is found in I John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful to forgive our sins and cleanse us from unrighteousness.”

When we ask, He will free us from the sickness of sin. Yet, it is possible to be forgiven and still have some side effects. As long as we are humans, we will be tempted with the side effects of our past sinful ailment. We must make the decision, moment-by-moment, to live in our new condition: improved, free, and healed.

Through Him alone, we can live completely cured from the terminal prognosis of sin.
