Chocolate Hummus

Chocolate Hummus

Over four years ago, I started this blog with a Lemony Snicket quote, and my home page boasts a picture of Lemony Snicket books.  Without a doubt, Snicket is my favorite monikered children’s author.  His proverbs are quite wise, including this one:

“Sometimes words are not enough.”
Lemony Snicket

In the case of this recipe, words are not enough because your other senses need to be involved.

I could go to great lengths to express in words the deliciousness of chocolate hummus.  I could describe the rich smell of chocolate, or the pleasing crunch as you take a bite of hummus on a cracker, or the buzzing sound of the food processor.  But words are not enough.  You need to smell, feel, taste, and hear for yourself.

Since we first eat with our eyes, I went to great lengths to create a favorable picture of chocolate hummus.

After two failed attempts at capturing a proper hummus photo, I designed a canvas and snapped practice shots of the empty bowls until I was pleased with the colors and angles.

Then I moved my canvas outside for better lighting, and I added the actual food.

Now that you’ve eaten with your eyes, go taste and smell this rich chocolate hummus!

  • One 15-oz can chickpeas (I have also successfully tried this recipe with black beans, but I think the chickpeas have a better flavor.)
  • 4 tbs. cocoa powder
  • 2 tbs. honey (You can try other sweeteners, but I have found that honey
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt

Grind all ingredients in the food processor until smooth.

  1. I’ve been thinking about making something like this, I’ll have to try it! Isn’t it amazing how much work we put into getting great photos!?

    1. Yes, you do! These dishes are just too cute! Chocolate and beans sounds like a weird combination, but it is remarkably good. I have made this recipe 4 times, and I love it!

    1. It sounds like everyone is “interested” 🙂 I think chocolate hummus will be the next milkshake + fries. You don’t expect it to work, but it is great! Thanks for stopping by! ❤ 🙂
