10 Verses for When You Feel Conflicted

When it comes to making decisions, I am like a squirrel on a four-lane highway.   I sprint back and forth, considering all the options until WHAM! it’s too late.  A decision is made for me.

Decision-making always leaves me feeling conflicted.  I see the pros and cons of each side, and I am anxious concerned that I will be bummed by the decision I make unwise.  I struggle to distinguish between what my deceitful heart wants and what God’s perfect will wants.

1.Jeremiah 17:9

The heart is deceitful above all things
    and beyond cure.
    Who can understand it?

The problem is that I am trying to rely on my own wisdom to make the decision.  The Bible shows us that we do not have to make decisions alone.

2. John 14:26

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

God has given His children the Holy Spirit as a helper, and God encourages us to ask Him for wisdom.  His wisdom is far beyond human understanding.

3. James 1:5

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

4.  James 3:17

But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.

Charles Ryrie explained that God does not give this wisdom through a process.  Rather, we gain wisdom as we walk with the Lord.

There are many verses that tell us to follow God as He directs us to make wise decisions.

5. Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.

6. Psalm 37:7

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;
fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,
over the man who carries out evil devices!

7. Proverbs 16:3

Commit your work to the Lord,
and your plans will be established.

Sometimes it feels like the answer is never coming, but God does not forget us.  He answers us according to His perfect timing.

8.  Isaiah 49:14-16

But Zion said, “The LORD has forsaken me, the Lord has forgotten me.”

“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.”

9. I Corinthians 14:33

When we face a decision and feel conflicted, God wants us to strengthen our relationship with Him and walk according to His wisdom.

10.  2 Corinthians 10:5

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
