Top Ten Tuesday

A few weeks go, I went for a walk with a new friend. Before this night, our friendship had been surface-level. We both wanted to be friends, but our “water cooler” conversations had not drilled deep.

But this night, our friendship grew rapidly. As we discussed the wonders chocolate milk, we realized that we are (in the words of Anne of Green Gables) “kindred spirits.” The conversation flowed from dairy products to education, to work struggles, and, finally, relationships.

Both of us are single, and we agreed that society can portray single girls as neglected.  But the truth we both claim, as cliche as it sounds, is that God does not make mistakes, and His plan is perfect.  The Bible is filled with His promise to never neglect us.  Time and time again, we read of his never-ending, unbreaking, enduring love.

Ten Verses For When You Feel Neglected

1. Hebrews 2:6

What is mankind that you are mindful of them,
    a son of man that you care for him?

2. Psalm 136:23

He remembered us in our low estate
His love endures forever.

In truth, mankind does not deserve to be loved by God.  Yet, He remembers us, and He loved us enough to send His Son to redeem us.

3. John 3:16

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

4. Romans 5:8

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

His love is so great that nothing can separate us from it.  As Corrie Ten Boom said, “There is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper still.”

5. Romans 8:35, 38-39

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

6. Psalm 103:11

For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him

But God does not only care for mankind as a whole; He cares for each of His children as individuals.

Consider the examples of Noah, Sarah, Rachel, and Hannah.

7. Genesis 21:1

Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised.

8. Luke 1:68

Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel,
    because he has come to his people and redeemed them.

9. Matthew 10:29-31

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

God’s love towards us is great, and we can grasp it on a personal level.

10. Ephesians 3:17-19

so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
