Simple Joy Saturday #42

On Saturdays, I share three simple things that brought me happiness during the week.  These posts may grow or change as time passes.  Please feel free to share your own simple joys in the comments section!

1. I have laughed out loud at this poem so many times this week.

Introduction to Poetry

By Billy Collins

I ask them to take a poem
and hold it up to the light
like a color slide

or press an ear against its hive.

I say drop a mouse into a poem
and watch him probe his way out,
or walk inside the poem’s room
and feel the walls for a light switch.

I want them to waterski
across the surface of a poem
waving at the author’s name on the shore.

But all they want to do
is tie the poem to a chair with rope
and torture a confession out of it.

They begin beating it with a hose
to find out what it really means.

2. I am teaching! (sort of…)

Because the English Lab (a freshman-level co-requisite) is bursting with students, the class receives instruction from the main teacher for half of the class period and breaks into small groups for the latter half of the period.  I have a total of 17 students in my 2 small groups.

3. Ever since my cousin sent me an oatmeal muffin recipe, I have been oatmeal muffin-obsessed.

The only reason I am currently out of muffins is that I need to buy more eggs.  Thankfully, Saturday is grocery day.
