Simple Joy Saturday #44

On Saturdays, I share three simple things that brought me happiness during the week.  These posts may grow or change as time passes.  Please feel free to share your own simple joys in the comments section!

It’s been a while since I shared my weekly joys, not because my life has lacked joy but because my life has lacked time.

October 13-19, 2018

1. Electricity

Hurricane Michael stole the electricity at my apartment on Thursday, October 11 at 5:00pm.  After watching the Duke Energy website all day at work on Friday, I decided to stay with my parents until electricity was restored.  I finally regained power on Sunday after 4:00 pm.

2. Dark Chocolate

Every time I get a headache, my brain tells me that dark chocolate will make me feel better.  If you ever have dark chocolate that you think is “too bitter” (there’s no such thing), send it my way!

3. Achieving Goals

Somehow, I got out of the habit of running this summer.  More often than not, I swam or went on long walks with friends after work.  By the end of September, I could only run about 7 minutes before stopping to walk.  Dissatisfied, I set myself a goal for October: run 5k without stopping.  I reached that goal on Thursday (don’t ask me how slow my pace was…you could probably walk faster).  Now it’s time to reach my November goal: 2 miles in 20 minutes (a shorter distance, but a significantly quicker pace).

Note:  I ate a lot of dark chocolate after my run on Thursday.

Second note:  I had to stretch for nearly thirty minutes on Friday morning because my legs were so sore (I recommend Karen Dub’s post-run stretches and the Blogilates’ yoga video).
