Simple Joy Saturday #55

Simple Joy Saturday #55

In 2019, I am posting a roundup of “simple joys” on the last Saturday of every month. Feel free to share your own simple joys in the comments!

Enjoyable Reads

1. This was the month of Robert Frost in my graduate studies.  One of my favorite poems by Frost is “Accidentally on Purpose,” but I couldn’t easily find a link to it online.  Instead, I will share “Fireflies in the Garden”.

2. I gave myself a break from all the heavy books that I have tackled in the past few months, and I listened to the audiobook Mr. Lemoncello’s Great Library Race by Chris Grabenstein.  It is a children’s book, but it is great!  I would recommend it for anyone who loves literary allusions, venerates vivid vocab, or adores agreeable alliteration.

3.  That being said, my favorite book from the 100 Book Bucket List this month was Anna Karenina.  It’s long, but it’s much better than I expected.

Enjoyable Tunes

1. “Fear No More” by Building 429

“I’m not giving up.
I’m giving in to what you planned for Your glory.”

2. “Wonderful Feeling” by Switchfoot

“After all this time spent chasing my shadow
Let Your light be mine”

3. “Lean” by Nichole Nordeman

“You’re not impressed with all of my best
Not disappointed when I don’t land on my feet
In everything, you are asking me to lean”

Enjoyable Days

1. Taking graduation photos of my friend gave me life!

2.  The day that I arrived in St. Paul was probably the best day of my trip.  Not only did I visit the Mall of America, but I also caught my first glimpse of the incredible view from my hotel room.

3. Last Sunday afternoon, I made a spur-of-the-moment decision to turn off of the running trail and onto the mountain bike trail.  I use the word trail to loosely describe a skinny path of mud that zig-zagged between the towering trees.  By end of the run, I was covered in mud and spider webs.  It was easily my favorite run this year.

What were your simple joys this month?

  1. I love that the muddy run made it on here!!
Simple joys, well, maybe not so simple, but still a joy. I, for the first time ever, didn’t have to leave my fiancé at night to go back to my own home because we got married two Saturdays ago!! We finally got to stay with each other at night, and that was huge! One of us always had an hour commute home, so it’s a huge deal to us!
