June 14 is Flag Day
Something that I love about my daily walks through Old Salem is seeing all of the different flags. With the acquisition of each new state, our flag has gained a white star.
I can think of nothing more patriotic than Old Glory proudly waving in the sun. As Francis Scott Key suggests in The Star Spangled Banner, the flag is a sign of our freedom and a testament to the brave soldiers who protect us.
My need for structure created some interesting mental scenarios growing up. As a kid, I was sure that there were yogurt divisions in my household. I know that no one else felt this way, but it was my opinion that every family member should have their own flavor. That way, we wouldn’t have to worry about eating the yogurt that someone else wanted. My mom could have peach, my brother could have blueberry, and I would eat vanilla. Just to keep a level playing field, we would share the strawberry. Needless to say, I was the only one who followed these restrictions.
Consequently, I have never had blueberry yogurt—until today, that is. To match my blue Gap sundress, I made blueberry yogurt overnight oatmeal using this recipe. I topped the masterpiece with banana slices and blackberries, and ate to my heart’s content.
